How do I generate URLs?

URL Template

To generate a list of URLs you have to provide the URL Template first. URL Template is a text that contains an actual URL address along with Varying Numbers in the places where generated digits or letters must be placed.

URL Template

Here are some examples of URL Templates:

  • http://www.videosite.com/movie[1]/clip[2].avi
  • http://www.musicsite.com/artist[1]/album[2]/song[3].mp3
  • ftp://username:password@ftpsite.com/archive[1].zip

In the above sample URL Templates [1], [2] and [3] are the Varying Numbers. Varying Numbers are the place holders. They will be replaced with the actual numbers or letters during the URL list generation process. So the next step of the URL list generation process is setting up the Varying Numbers.

Varying Numbers

For each Varying Number in the URL Template you have to add a corresponding Varying Number in the Varying Numbers section using Add varying number button. Since the URL Template must have at lease one Varying Number, it is added automatically to every new project and you can not remove it.

Varying Numbers

Every Varying Number has the following settings:

  • From - the first digit or letter. Extreme URL Generator will start generating from this value.
  • To - the last digit or letter. Extreme URL Generator will generate URLs up to this value.
  • Step - used only with digits. The next generated value will be Current Value + Step.
  • Digigts - used only with digits. Using this value you can specify the minimal number of digits in every generated value. If the generated number has less digits, then leading zeroes are added.
  • Iterate within [?]. If this box is set, then for each value in the previous Varying Number Extreme URL Generator will generate a list of URLs using values of current Varying Number.
